Aside from bugfix builds, etc, I have not been actively working on the code. The next major feature to be done is a UI for toggling blocking, rule customization, etc (as in those extensions in other browsers), but as I don't currently use IE I have little need for that anymore.

That said, bug-wise I believe things work pretty well (though I haven't tested much on IE9). If you find bugs, I would be happy to fix them.

So I'm not quite sure I would say this is orphaned code, but it's not under new development. If you're interested in taking it over and adding those additional usability features, I think that would be great.

Dan:

I see that the last updates took place sometime in 2009 but you're still actively involved in the discussions. Are you still working on the code in your spare time and planning further updates, or is the code rock solid and not necessarily in need of any further tweaks? I'm just curious what you believe the true status of the project to be and as we start moving forward.

I'm afraid I don't know. I really can't remember the details of BHO loading--the boiler plate is basically one of those things you copy from someone else and tweak until it works.

You could try fiddling around with that line I pasted above to add your browser's image (alongside "iexplore.exe") or something. It also may be that your browser hosts Trident in a way that it doesn't load BHOs? I don't really remember how any of that stuff works.

I tryied the version you built for me and sadly it is not working. Now it doesn't work in IE too. I don't know why, but I noticed that it doesn't appear in the installed add-ons list in Internet Explorer's Manage Add-ons window. Maybe you can take a look at it... I wanted my IE-based browser's users to get rid of the annoying ads displayed on the web and I think AdBlockIE is the best sollution to do it... You can have a look at my browser, it is called ValiNet Navigator, at www.valinet.ro or download it directly from http://www.valinet.ro/valinet%20site/en/setup.exe. Sorry for this response. It came so hard because in the last few weeks I didn't have any access to any computer. And now I'm going to tell you something interesting you don't know. Do you know how to explain the following: John and Marie were found dead in the house surrounded by water and broken glass pieces (those pieces were part of something made of glass). Ah, well. I could make a build for you without this code, but it would have to wait at least until the weekend. Depends on how much time I have and whether I feel like it, to be honest. :)

How about this: This weekend, I will try to set aside the time to make you a build (which should only take five or ten minutes, tops, so don't think this is a big thing). In exchange, you tell me something interesting that I don't already know. Sound fair?

I understood what you told me, but I don't know how to modify the source code (the code you given me). You know, I think I put code in there to avoid loading the BHO in anything other than IE. Seemed like good behavior. You can modify it.

Yes, I tried, but with no success. This add-on only works in IE, in my IE-based browser it doesn't work (I'm using an basic IE-based browser I'm developing for my job). The add-on is blocking ads for example, on the example.com site, but when I open the same site (example.com) with my IE-based browser, it does not do anything. And I didn't included a block BHOs option in my app. I just used the IE control in my app. So does anybody have any idea on how to get it work in other IE-based browsers? For example, I'm also using ieSpell to check spelling errors on forms on web pages and this add-on works in any other IE-based browser as it works in IE.

I think BHOs generally work with all instances of IWebBrowser, or whatever. Basically, if IE is being hosted as a COM object by some other browser, I think this extension should work. But I think the hosting app can disable BHOs, which would break AdblockIE (and a ton of other stuff). So you should just give it a shot and see if it works.

Hi! I just installed AdBlockIE and found that it is working with no problem. Thanks for this great software and good job! But I have one more question about this program: may I use it to block ads in other IE-based browsers? I am using an IE-base browser and I want to block ads using this add-on in it if it is possible. Does anybody know how to do this? Thanks!

Seems to.

You may also want to investigate TPLs in IE9, though. There's now a more robust mechanism for blocking third party tracking cookies, etc. I've not tried to use it to block first-party ads yet, but it probably can do so.

I have IE8 XP SP2 with Chromeframe BHO 7.0.517.44 and SimpleAdblock 1.0. I have 4 Home Page tabs set to open when IE is first opened. One of the tabs is to www.theozarkerr.com/index.htm. If that particular website is listed anywhere but the 1st tab, it throws an "Internet Exlporer cannot display" error. Simply refreshing the page displays the website correctly. If I change the order so this website is 1st in the list, the problem does not occur. I suspect it is a DNS lookup problem somehow caused by Adblock. If I disable Adblock, the problem does not occur.
